Required Audio/PTT cable will look like this:

GX16-8 MIC pin 6 (PTT) → 3.5mm TRRS ring 2 (RIG\_PTT)
GX16-8 MIC pin 7 (GND) → 3.5mm TRRS sleeve (GND)
GX16-8 MIC pin 8 (MIC) → 3.5mm TRRS ring 1 (RIG\_AFIN)

RCA center (AF OUT) → 3.5mm TRRS tip (RIG\_AFOUT)

Optional CAT connection can be done via DIN6 on the back.

DIN8 pin 1 (GND) → 3.5mm TRRS sleeve (GND)
DIN8 pin 2 (Serial Out) → 3.5mm TRRS ring 1 (RIG\_TXD)
DIN8 pin 3 (Serial In) → 3.5mm TRRS tip (RIG\_RXD)

Port uses logic levels from what I can find online.

Thank you for the help with this! I have audio working, but no CAT control in WSJT-X. I have the baud rate set at 4800, I have tried both default and 8 for data bits and I have tried all options for stop bits. When I click the test CAT button I get an error that says “communication timed out while testing getting the current vfo.” I also see the CAT text pulse on and off on the radio.

I’ve checked the pin out of that cable and I’m confident that it is correct.

I’m running Pop\_OS, and the device selected is /dev/ttyUSB0. I’m pretty sure this is correct because if I unplug the digirig and restart WSJT-X this option is gone until I plug the digirig back in and restart again.

Any thoughts?

Here are some settings suggestions I found online:

There is always a possibility I missed something but, I checked again and from what I can tell the suggested serial port levels and pinouts appear to be correct.

There are mentions online of the rig being a bit slow when it comes to processing the commands and needing commands spacing out retries etc.

Someone on Reddit suggested that the Digirig uses 3.3v whereas my rig needs 5v and suggested I use this:

Low value is close to zero for both and high value of 3.3V logic levels is within the range for high value of the 5.0V logic levels so in theory this should work.

The level converter may be something to look into If you have exhausted all other troubleshooting venues.

Ok, thanks for the input. I’ll try some other stuff and see what sticks.

Got it figured out! I found a few posts talking about a similar issue on an FT-1000. The solution was to place a pull-down resistor between Serial Out (pin 2 on the CAT plug) and ground (pin 1). I did this with a 2k resistor and it worked! Hope this helps someone out in the future.

Thanks Thats was the real solution. I took an 2.2K spare resistor and … voilá.
