I recently released my Graywolf software as open source. Graywolf is easy-to-use APRS digipeater and iGate software for Linux, macOS, and Windows. It does the basics that you can get out of other options like Direwolf, but also has a few features that I think are compelling.

The software contains a high-performance AFSK modem that was ported to Rust from Direwolf’s AFSK code (which was written in C). It’s decoding abilities match Direwolf and exceed many older software approaches. It uses a tiny amount of resources: only 32 megabytes of RAM and roughly 12% of a single Raspberry Pi 5 CPU core to decode AFSK with the Digirig.

I used my Digirig Mobile for development, so Digirig is a first-class supported configuration in Graywolf.

There’s a rich, responsive web UI to make setup and maintenance easy:

There’s also a live, aprs.fi-style map that shows all of the stations that were heard by your station:

Audio setup is super easy for most configurations:

I got it to pull up on my web browser once. Then the very next day all I saw was “hmmm…can’t seem to find that”. Not sure what the heck happened but it doesn’t like windows I guess.

Very nice project.
I set Graywolf up on a raspberry pi zero 2w with rapberry pi 32 os lite(32-bit) and it works very well with a digirig mobile, ublox GPs, and Kenwood ht.
Downloaded the off line maps.
Set the raspberry pi to hotspot mode to access Graywolf without the internet.

I use nmtui to activate my home wifi for updates.

Just heard about Graywolf yesterday while listening to the LHS Podcast. Have started down the rabbit holeand already watched a few YT vids on it and am going to proceed with a Digipeater etc. Just started down the Linux rabbit hole as well, but basically, I’m a Mac guy. I have one laptop running one of each- Mac, Linux and Windows 11. Which iteration do you suggest I pursue? The Linux laptop is an old MacBook Air running MInt that is running Weewx for my aprs weather station. Can I run Graywolf on it at the same time and have it do these multiple tasks concurrently? Please advise! Thx

Answering my own query!

Setup Graywolf on an old MacBook Air running Linux Mint. Easy setup with my Digirig Lite! The web interface really makes it simple. Recognized the Digirig immediately and was able to adjust in and out audio for effective Rx and Tx . Digirig connected to an old Baofeng from the shelf and my attic Signal Stalk. Ran the Digipeater and iGate on Field Day into a roll up J-Pole. A really super product that is completely compatible with Digirig.
