When I plug my new Digirig into my Windows 10 computer, it immediately goes into transmit mode continuously. This is before I have run any ham radio programs on the computer. If I shut down the computer it un-keys the radio. When I boot up the computer the Digirig goes into transmit mode as soon as Windows loads on the computer. It does this on two different Windows PC’s. I finally found a third PC where this is not a problem, so I know the Digirig is OK.

I found something about going into the driver properties and unchecking the “Serial Enumerator” box, but mine does not show that option.

Digirig Mobile keys up the radio by RTS signal of the serial port. It sounds like some software on your computer auto-loads and talks to the serial port. Are you able to access Digirig’s serial port from any other apps such as WSJT-X after the computer is loaded? You might want to disconnect the cables on the transceiver’s side while you are troubleshooting this.

After a few hours of grief, I (with help from AI) finally found the solution to my problem which I hope nobody else with my skill level ever has to go through.

I was suspicious something was secretly controlling my COM ports, so I decided to do AI queries on how to find out what applications or processes were using my COM ports. It was suggested that I run something called PROCESS EXPLORER as administrator. I had to download this from Microsoft. After you run the program, click Find at the top, and then FIND HANDLE OR DLL. I first searched for the word serial, but that did not help show any valid results.

I then opened Device Manager and clicked to expand the Ports line. After hooking up my Digirig it showed up in the COM ports. I right clicked on it to get to Properties. I then clicked the Details tab. I changed the Property menu to Service. In my case, that then produced a name called “silabser.” That is the name for the driver that Digirig uses.

I went back to PROCESS EXPLORER as above, and I now searched for “silabser.” I was surprised to see a name of an application show up which I forgot was even on my computer. It was an application designed to synchronize my computer clock to a GPS time source if I plugged in a GPS to a COM port. I had previously used that application on both of my computers in the past. I opened Task Manager and looked at the list of running applications, and sure enough, that time sync application was currently running. And it appears it automatically starts up on boot up.

I deleted the application using Remove Programs. Restarted my computer, and the problem was gone.

Apparently this application runs quietly in the background and is constantly checking COM ports to see if a GPS gets plugged in. It was conflicting with my Digirig.
