# Yaesu FTM-100D with WSJT-X

Brand new to FT8. Just got my Digirig equipment for my Yaesu FTM100D and have been trying to get it setup for the last 8 hours and just can’t seem to get it to work. Tried following all of the instructions here and on the video but just can’t get it going. Totally lost.

Before you invest more time in this issue, please keep in mind that FT8 is optimized for and practiced over SSB. Yaesu FTMs are FM radios.
Now what you want to use is Winlink+VaraFM or packet, APRS (terrestrial or satellite), SSTV (terrestrial or satellite/ISS), VarAC.

Think I’m going to give up on this. I don’t have the Ht’s to figure all this out. Not real good on computers. I’ve tried following the directions but I can’t get past the error on WSJT-X. Again, thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

In WSJT-X you’ll need to set “rig” dropdown to “none” when interfacing radio that is not capable of serial CAT control such as your FTM-100D. Making this change will get you past the error message, but even when you’ll be able to transmit and receive there will be no FT8 traffic on FM. For FT8 you need a SSB transceiver.
