For some reason, my 878 UVII Plus is acting up while connected to Digirig Lite. I am trying to get a Winlink message through and it looks like there is a PTT delay in the radio that cuts off about 0.5 seconds from the beginning of each transmission (I verified that by listening on another radio) I was able to send and receive a couple of Winlink messages with the same setup first a couple of days ago but somehow the 878 stopped working. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the Digirig itself. It works fine with another radio and I plugged in a headphone and heard full transmissions every time.
You can also simulate PTT by shorting sleeve and ring 2 on Digirig’s end of the cable to see how responsive the radio is to the hardware PTT. This will also help rule out any RFI related effects.
If that’s an inherent issue with the radio then you’ll need to work around that by padding the transmissions where possible. In some software modems there are settings to add noop tone around the payload.
Thanks, Denis for the help. You’re right. I have a 2-pin connector with stripped ends and I used it to simulare the PTT. There is clearly enough delay that can mess with the transmission.
Fortunately, there is an easy fix for it in Direwolf. I just added 450ms of PTT delay and it looks like we’re back in business.
For future readers, to add PTT delay in Direwolf, just below where you define your channel, in my case the line that says CHANNEL 0, add TXDELAY 45. That is 35*10 ms of delay.
These AnyTones are nice and feature-packed radios, but sometimes, you come across little glitches that can easily piss you off.
