Is it possible to TX/RX APRS packets in APRSDroid with a Digirig Mobile connected to an Yaesu FT-817ND? If so, what should be the settings on the app and on the radio?
I didn’t see PTT by RTS in the parameters in APRSdroid.
You may be able to use your Digirig Mobile with VOX active in the radio.
Alternatively, consider Digirig Mobile with VOX implemented in the interface.
That’s the catch: the FT-817ND doesn’t have VOX. It transmits through PTT command in the DATA port.
Would a Digirig Mobile with VOX interface trigger the PTT command on the data port of the radio?
Yes, with Digirig Lite or DR-891. Digirig Mobile does not implement PTT by VOX.
Just to be clear: APRSDroid would be sending AFSK packets with my position, Digirig Lite would pass it with a PTT command to the FT-817ND’s DATA port?
Yes, the software will get your location, encode APRS packet into the audio and send it to your radio using Digirig Lite. The interface will key up the radio automatically when it detects the payload.
One more thing: the correct cable for such setup would be the “MiniDin6 9600-baud Audio/PTT cable”?
Would it also work for FT8CN?
Yes, it should work with any apps implementing sound card based digital modes.
