I am having trouble getting aprsdroid to decode. I am using several radios and both digirig mobile and lite and getting same results. The radio is receiving good signal and the app is showing that it hears it by the bar at the top. But it does not decode any of the packets. When I plug the exact same radio, digirig, cables into a windows OS running pinpoint, it works without a problem. When I let aprsdroid listen to the audio without a cable, it decodes. The ptt function works great. I have tried on 2 different samsung phones with the same results.
It is inconsistent as well. Sometimes it will decode for a few mins, then stop. What am I doing wrong?
From your troubleshooting you ruled out a lot of areas. The only difference I can think of is the audio levels. With Windows you have granular control over the levels of the incoming audio via the control panel.
All these radios work great with windows 10 and 11 running pinpoint and sound modem with both the digirig mobile and lite with the only change being APRSdroid.
the volume knob on ALL the radios is too high or low
(not too likely)
the samsung phones you have, hate external soundcards.
unfortunately, i have a samsung galaxy s7 that doesn’t like external soundcards.
finds/functions but stumbles on decodes. weird.
the s7 active can decode from the built in mic all day.
can’t decode crap from external soundcard.
this is WITH a picture perfect waterfall in the phone app.
crazy
I feel your pain. There is so many variables at play and I do believe APRS droid is a poor program at the root job of demod. I have messed with this for a few weekends and I still cant demod every packet coming in. Also keep in mind a lot of the packets coming in are repeats or confirmations. They may be demoded but wont show up as a new station on the list screen. A couple things I did to troubleshoot were to:
-record the audio on the android devise to hear what its hearing. just making sure it wasnt some basic issue
-try both the APRSdroid standard and “high quality demodulation”. I find the standard is much better for me.
-wait a bit. sometimes demod doesnt start working for a few minutes even though good packets are coming in. This can be vary deceiving. You may have everything right, but not wait long enough.
-try the app Igate2 (free version). doesnt fix anything but it works better for me so I knew I was chasing a APRSdroid/audio problem
-Try a microphone app. This one worked well for me to have even more control over the auidio coming into APRSdroid. In the end I didnt need this, but it got me working to start.
I have tried all of those things. I saw all these recommendations on previous post As far as waiting, as I type, I have had aprsdroid running for 1 hour with nothing decoded.
I was hoping that someone may have found a solution since the last questions were asked. Im looking to find a different android phone/tablet that is not a galaxy that will work. Only problem I have is the old ones I got laying around are micro-usb and have no GPS. Trying not to spend anymore money as the wife is starting to notice more things appearing and money disappearing.
Looks like I will buy one of those cheap Chinese android tablets from amazon for $50. I know they wont be good for much else.
Found a solution that seems to be consistently working. I could have swore I tried this. I have to put the phone on airplane mode. It is a Galaxy Fold 3 that does not have service. If I keep it in airplane mode, it seems to work fine.
