Baofeng-f8hp VOX PTT not working with SoundModem

Hi All,

I just received a Digirig Lite and the Baofeng cable from Digirig. I can see the waterfall ok in soundmodem. I’ve set input levels and can hear the output using headset from digirig, but not PTT on radio. Any suggestions?

Does VOX work without the Digirig, when talking into the HT?

Have you considered moving to PTT via RTS?

Thanks, but the option for Advanced PTT settings is greyed out. I chose EXT and I got PTT.dll not found. I’ll research that.

I did not know that was a thing. I’ll turn on that parameter and see if that works. I was using a Signalink modem which worked. I’ll research.

I missed that you have the digirig-lite. Please disregard the comment about RTS.

No joy with the VOX. I can’t get it to transmit at level 1 off the modem. ???

VOX works disconnected from the digirig with SQL 1. Doesn’t PTT plugged back into digirig and no output level even when signals exist.

I had trouble with my Baofeng K connector, until I pushed it hard into the handset. Then it worked reliably.

Receives fine. Checked K connector. Appears to be seated. Thanks for suggestions. Still puzzling…

You might have a Data Execution Prevention setting in Windows that’s preventing PTT from working. Try this on your Windows PC:

  • Press the Windows key and R together to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type sysdm.cpl and press Enter to launch System Properties.
  • Move to the Advanced tab inside the System Properties window and click on Settings under Performance.
  • Navigate to the Data Execution Prevention tab.
  • There are 2 choices. The first is “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”. If yours is set to this, there’s nothing you can do here to change that soundmodem.exe error.
  • The second choice is “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:” If yours is set to this, you have 2 choices:
    1. Leave that setting as-is, then:
      • Click Add… and then browse to and select C:\soundmodem\soundmodem.exe (or wherever you installed soundmodem.exe and the PTT-DLL files).
      • Click Apply, then OK and OK again to close all the dialog boxes.
    2. Change the setting to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”.
  • Restart soundmodem.exe. PTT EXT should work now.

Good Try, but mine was set to the first choice.

I sure thought that the PTT feature would work pretty much out of the box.

I’m running Windows 11.
The system works with Baofeng F8HP from SoundModem from EasyTerm.

My system sees the digirig sound card Input and Output in Device Manager. I located these in Sound Settings and went through the setup tests. I can hear the tones output from soundmodem using a headset.

The radio will just not PTT.

I can see traffic fine with the digirig lite.

I’m at a loss on this.

Any help appreciated.

Does the red light on Digirig Lite up when you expect PTT?

Do you see green bars next to the Digirig’s playback device when attempting to transmit?

This should have triggered PTT including activation of red LED if audio sent to both audio channels. Please PM/email for the RMA arrangements, I’ll retest your Digirig inhouse and replace it if needed.
