I am trying to use Baofeng Tech Mobiles 50X2 & 25X2 to do VARA-FM. When sending an Auto Tune or Ping to my RMS, the response from the RMS is too fast for the radios. The radio’s squelches are on 0 and no squelch tail elimination is enabled. The radio’s switching time from Transmit to Receive is so slow, that it cuts off part of the digital response from the RMS. Is there any way to make the radio’s switching time from transmit to receive faster or slow down the response from my RMS. Thanks. Jim W7JWT I am good in QRZ.
Are you using Digirig Mobile or Lite?
Are you using PTT via RTS? That is faster than VOX.
Are you trying Vara Narrow or Wide? Narrow is less demanding and will accomodate the emphasis/de-emphasis of FM voice in the HT.
Despite the trouble you hear with Autotune and Ping, have you tried connecting and sending a message anyway? I frequently succeed when Autotune or Ping fail. Vara FM algorithm tries to handle all the timing internally.

The Vara dashboard Delay meter typically is in the yellow. Has hit Red.
In my case with Baofeng HT, setting the standby receive VU meter in the “Green” at about 1-2 pm position was tricky, but important for success. The volume knob also had some hysteresis, so I had to set it going from low → high without going too high.
