I realize this is an older post, but I am trying to do FT8 on an old HTX-10 and have a question about the wiring shown above. I understand the “mic” wiring for RIG_AFIN, RIG_PTT, and GND, all this comes from the 6 pin jack on the radio. But for RIG_AFOUT it appears that is coming from the external speaker jack on the back of the radio, is this correct? Now according to the Digirig wiring all 4 of these lines are on the Digirig’s “audio” input jack, correct? So there is no connection from the radio to the Digirig’s “serial” input? Additionally, the external speaker jack is a 3.5 mm TS, not a 1/4" TS, although looking at the schematic it’s impossible to tell. Just out of curiosity, why couldn’t you get the RIG_AFOUT from pin 2 of the mic connector? Looking at the schematic of the radio and it appears pin 2 is the same audio feed as the internal and external speaker, so you could do this with a single, 4 wire cable, right? And the “serial” jack is not used because there is no CAT support on this radio?
yes, you can use just the mic jack for audio in/out/gnd/ptt.
the common way IS to use the speaker jack in the back because the AF out on the mic jack is routed/switched through the microphone.
this prevents any artifacts/feedback entering the microphone during transmit.
since we’re using a closed audio setup, you can take AF out from the mic without trouble.
this is good for 1200baud packet and vara narrow as well as all the narrow bandwidth soundcard modes.
lastly, you’re correct that there is no remote control/cat function on this radio.
