I have a Yaesu FTM-350 which I would like to use for VARA FM. Can you suggest a cable or cables to use with a Digirig?
It looks like this radio uses MiniDin8 port for combined audio and serial which is highly unusual and I don’t have a pre-made cable for that.
I found this page with the below pinout:
Based on that Digirig cable will look like this:
Audio (9600 baud) to Digirig audio socket:
MiniDin8 pin 1 (PKD) → 3.5mm TRRS ring 1 (RIG_AFIN)
MiniDin8 pin 2 (GND) → 3.5mm TRRS sleeve (GND)
MiniDin8 pin 3 (PKS) → 3.5mm TRRS ring 2 (RIG_PTT)
MiniDin8 pin 4 (RX96) → 3.5mm TRRS sleeve (RIG_AFOUT)
Serial to Digirig serial socket (CAT or programming?)
MiniDin8 pin 2 (GND) → 3.5mm TRRS sleeve (GND)
MiniDin8 pin 7 (TXD) → 3.5mm TRRS ring 1 (RIG_TXD)
MiniDin8 pin 8 (RXD) → 3.5mm TRRS tip (RIG_RXD)
Can you make this cable. It is the same for FTM350 and Btech UV50x3 (which I have). I have no idea how to make a cable but I think there is a market for this

There is a market for these, it’s just not big enough for the scale production and managing the inventory. If you prefer not to build the cable at home you can ask for help from somebody in your local club or online (e.g. Paul at https://hammadeparts.com/).
