Can Get My Digirig Lite To Pull The PTT On My Kenwood TH-D74 In Windows Direwolf

I have put “PTT CM108” in my direwolf.conf file and I have the correct USB ports set up with “ADEVICE 1 2”. I see the devices when I go to Device Manager and I look in “Audio inputs and outputs” I see my “DigiLite(2-USB Audio Device) which I renamed according to the instructions for the microphone and the speaker. Direwolf comes up just fine and I see packets coming up but when it is time to “PBEACON”, I see the message says it is doing it but no PTT is happening with my Kenwood TH-D74. I am using the cable that is recommended for Kenwood H/Ts and Baofeng H/Ts. Does anybody have any working solutions or ideas? If you have a working direwolf.conf file, I would sure like to see it.

Thank you.

Does the red LED light up on the Digirig Lite when the radio should be transmitting?

YES!!! IT DOES GO RED!! That is why I am totally befuddled. I have set up Direwolf to “PBEACON” for a short time at 1 minute intervals and I have held the DirigLite to be sure that that little red PTT comes on. Isn’t this weird? I am going to do what I think you did in the Youtube video to check the cable to Kenwood TH-D74 and see if it might be an issue with the cable. I got the cable that was supposed to be for a Kenwood or a Baofeng.

I apologize about being a dunce about this but I am trying hard. I spent a few hours last night going through all of your Digirig Lite instructions. I know this should work.

Thank you.

Does the radio key up if you short sleeve to ring 2 on Digirig’s end of the cable as demonstrated here:

YES!! I AM USING THE BLACK CABLE! I did your test with a pair of tweezers just like you did in your video and that is what happened: sleeve and Ring 2. I touched one side of the tweezers to the sleeve and the other leg of the tweezers to Ring 2. I confirmed the TH-D74 little RED light came on!

I feel we are getting close!

We can rule out the rest of the hardware by trying the same PTT method (RA.Board/GPIO3) from another app. Try Soundmodem, VaraFM or FlDigi - the PTT settings for those apps are provided in the setup tutorial: https://digirig.net/digirig-lite-setup-manual/

It is possible that in your case you need to explicitly specify the device for PTT by GPIO3. Or if you already doing that then try the default instead. The setting is covered starting from page #68 in the manual for Direwolf:

Well I got Soundmodem downloaded and installed and I was going through the set up and it wants a COMM port and I don’t have one. However, I got it pointed to the DigiRig Light devices and I can see APRS packets coming in. So I don’t know what to do about this.

http://uz7.ho.ua/modem_beta/ptt-dll.zip

that is a dll for alternative PTT methods.

alternative to RTS on a comport that is ‘default’ for soundmodem.

when you start soundmodem with the downloaded files in the soundmodem directory, you will have ‘xtra’ options in the PTT section of soundmodem.

choose EXT and that should enable use of gpio for PTT

(click the advanced button to make sure the correct audio device is selected for gpio)

good luck
