Can't be filtering

APRSDroid is operating on a Samsung tablet via Digirig Lite to a Yeasu FTM 3100R. It sends packets and receives them just fine.

I know this because across the shack, I can send and receive APRS packets with my Kenwood D75. I can see the Yeasu’s packets and the Yeasu sees mine - all decoded in the APRSDroid logs.

BUT! Beyond my HT packets, I don’t see any other local transmissions in the APRSDroid logs. I see nearby stations on my HT but not on the Yeasu / APRSDroid rig.

Any ideas why I’d see local traffic on my HT and not in APRSDroid / Yeasu?

squelch? antenna/coax issues? tone decode on (obviously the ht would have to have tx tone on to break the 3100 squelch but you know…)

usually it’s the other way around, the base/mobile on a ‘good’ antenna hears it all and the ht is deaf.
(my moto ht is a D72)

good luck

Yeah, it’s like the antenna isn’t there. But it is - a high gain base station vertical with radials at about 30’. I suppose I could check the connections, weird.

yeah, it’s a head scratcher.

your in shack testing confirms that the 3100/aprsdroid can decode aprs packets from a near source/high strength signal.

that it can’t ‘hear’ the same things the ht is hearing questions the signal strength, by whatever means, coming into the 3100.
i use aprsdroid but have never ‘plugged in’ an object filter. is there a setting for the /m filter?

–yes, found it. packet filter. the thread title says can’t be filtering so you have probably checked that a couple times already

the d75 isn’t listing/displaying aprs over dstar by any chance is it?

After reading around last evening I think it’s squelch. Need to open it up. Will try to get out there for a few minutes this morning before the rest of Monday happens.

But, you’re correct I’ve looked at filtering - as you point out - the issue is why receive the nearby “hot” packet but not the weaker / distant signals?

No dstar on the d75. Turn on APRS and hit the beacon button. (I love this radio, BTW…) Ouch to acquire but I’m impressed otherwise. It works great over KISS via blue tooth to APRSDroid…

Solved. Squelch, it was.

Dummy, I’ll take the credit for that.
