CAT and PTT control not responsive on TS-570SG

Hello guys,i am using Digirig mobile to connect my Kenwood ts570sg to my computer for ft8.I use my homemade DB9 and DIN13 cable, which meets Digirig’s connection requirements.

On the radio,MENU35 was 96-1,MENU36 (COMMAND TRANSFER) was on.On the jtdx was 9600-8-1,Handshake - None,DTR and RTS was both blank.PTT methods was RTS.

I can get the radio’s audio output to the computer,but the "test CAT"result returns “kenwood get id returning(-6)IO error”,and “test PTT” also doesnt worked.

I have tried using 57600‑1, 4800‑1, and 4800‑2 speeds.

Does anyone have any advice to offer?

the digirig cable has the rts and dtr lines tied together.
does your homebrew cable tie them together ?

Yes, my homemade cable is wired entirely according to the set of the Kenwood DB9 Digirig Cable Pic.Rts and Cts are soldered together.

Guys, I m giving up using CAT to control frequency and PTT. I plan to only use the ACC13 PTT pin, controlling transmit/receive through PTT via RTS. So I soldered the points on the back of Digirig to use RTS for PTT.But it doesnt work.

And when testing my homemade cable alone, I shorted R2 (PTT) and S (GND), and the radio did indeed switch to transmit. But when the cable is connected to the digirig and I test PTT in wsjt, the radio shows no response at all.

So what modifications do I need to make in order to control PTT via RTS properly in WSJT?

First thing to check is the COM port number: make sure the port you reference in WSJT-X for PTT belongs to Digirig - it has Silicon Labs CP210x in description and disappears when you unplug Digirig from the USB port. Not as common of a mistake with ports being color coded but make sure the cable is connected to the audio socket labeled “audio”.

Thank you K0TX for your suggestion. I now plan to use a separate cable for CAT control, leaving audio and PTT to be handled by the Digirig. So, do you know how to solve the problem of PTT via RTS ?

The PTT line is typically pulled up to some voltage by the radio and a button, relay or an electronic switch shorts it to ground to initiate the transmit. Starting from revision 1.5 Digirig features an open-collector switch controlled by RTS signal of the serial port to do exactly that.

The description says the PTT line will be shorted to ground, but seems like it isn’t.

Yes, with Digirig Mobile hardware PTT is handled by the RTS signal of the serial port. You tested the cable; next make sure the configuration is correct by checking the COM port referenced. After that the next thing is to check for less probably problemx e.g. inspect Digirig itself to make sure the socket is attached well to the PCB.

OK thanks K0TX. I’ll check whether the board is properly connected, since I had to use a lot of force to cut the trace when switching to 232.
