I am looking for some guidance on connecting my President Washington (the new CB model) to a Digirig Mobile for use with JS8Call on the 11-meter band.
The President Washington features a 6-pin microphone jack on the front and does not have a built-in USB soundcard. I am currently using a Sirio Boomerang antenna with a good SWR (1.1 - 1.2), so the RF side is sorted.
A few specific questions:
Cables: Which specific Digirig cable set should I use for the 6-pin President connector to ensure both audio (In/Out) and PTT work correctly?
PTT Method: Should I configure JS8Call to use ‘RTS’ via the Digirig COM port, or is it better to rely on the radio’s built-in VOX settings?
Audio: Does the audio output usually come from the 6-pin mic jack, or do I need to run a separate cable from the external speaker jack on the back of the radio to the Digirig?
If anyone has this specific setup running, I would appreciate any tips on the settings!
It appears that Washington model shares the same mic pinout as Lincoln. There is no off-the-shelve cable for either, but the pinout was discussed in this thread:
Please post the update if you decide to give it a go.
I wanted to share my JS8Call setup for the President Washington. Unlike most setups that use the front microphone port, I am using the jacks on the back of the radio to keep the front clean.
My Connection Method:
Audio Out: I use the 3.5mm External Speaker jack on the back of the Washington, connected to the Digirig’s “Audio” port for receiving signals.
PTT/Transmit: I use the 2.5mm VOX jack on the back of the radio.
Radio Settings: I have enabled the VOX function on the President Washington. This allows the Digirig to trigger the transmitter automatically as soon as it sends audio from the PC.
Why this works for me:
This setup is great because I don’t need a special 6-pin microphone cable. Standard 3.5mm and 2.5mm audio cables (connected to the Digirig) do the job perfectly.
Results:
It works flawlessly on JS8Call (USB mode). I’m getting great decodes from Greece and France using my Sirio Boomerang A antenna. My SWR is a stable 1.1 on Channel 1 and 1.2 on Channel 40.
