COS Connector Use

@K0TX I was asking if you had made a video showing how to tap the COS with the Digirig. It doesn’t matter. I’ve just got a radio that can’t be used the way I was hoping. No big deal. Ya don’t know what you don’t know until ya look at it.

Hi, I have successfully used a modified CM108 to remotely key a FT-2980R using an ASL private node (video about that here https://youtu.be/F7IxurTaTE8 ) and I would like to replace the CM108 with the Digirig mobile. I have purchased the Yaesu RJ-12 cable and used it with Direwolf in the audio port successfully.

With the USB connected to a RPi3 running hamvoip ASL I can see in the simple USB tune menu that COS is working after soldering a connector to the COS and gnd tap point holes and connecting to the FT-2980R. RX is also working. When I use Droidstar to key, I see PTT also working but no TX pr TX audio on the radio. I attempted to bridge the pins shown here in your post and nothing has changed, tho my soldering work is bad, like really bad. I lifted one of the (3V3) pads and had to solder to the trace for the R2 jumper. I am using a Weller WLC100 with a screwdriver tip. If I had to describe my skill level it would be “generalist” so I can get myself into trouble fairly easily. I am hoping someone has a suggestion on where I could start to get PTT working and the transmit audio working using the digirig mobile. Please keep in mind my knowledge and skill are limited. I am a very visual learner so diagrams and images are usually extremely helpful. Thanks for any help. 73

Hi All, I just wanted to follow up here and mention I did get this working with an ASL private node I am using as a remote based to key a FT-2980R in a metal shop building. The solution which worked for me was bridging the PTT tap hole to the PTT conductor on the 1/8" Audio jack. I also made a video showing what I did here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYtGDxKNouc

Thanks for sharing, I’ll embed the video in the thread:

Here are some of the soldering supplies that I use along with the temperature controlled iron to make the process a bit easier:
