My digirig came in last week, it’s smaller than i thought it would be.
I will be setting it up this afternoon. Last night when I tried to start setting up on my years old windows laptop computer and under the sound settings, I didn’t notice it as a sound card or sound device.
Douglas,
Your computer should detect Digirig’s components before you get to anything radio related.
When components are not detected I first suggest making sure that the USB cable is good and data capable, but I see you got your Digirig with the cable from the store so that should be good. See if your computer detects the serial port. Check with a different computer for good measure too.
on my new computer in texas, it sees them as comm 3 and comm 4. It’s the cable from digirig. In texas im using a dr 891 and in az im using the standard digirig,. both with and 891
Thank you for confirming that your computer detected radio’s COM ports through DR-891. This tells us that the USB connection to the computer is good.
Do you see Digirig’s audio components in the control panel? You might want to turn on visibility for the disable devices in case you accidentally disabled Digirig’s playback or recording devices.
At the texas station, I see the dr 891 in both. I have unselected the digirig from being default. But, the microphone portion i cannot seem to figure out how to get it not to be default. I have not other devices to select has default for a microphone.
Equipment:
Windows 11 pc
Old dell monitor
DR 891
FT 891
The pc is connected via hdmi to dell monitor.
I can receive and decode, but no transmitt. The dr 891 is not set to default as speakers, but is default as microphone. I dont see any way to change the digirig away from default as there are no other microphone devices.
Enhanced com port is com3
Standard com port is com4
Under js8 settings
1: Radio
Cat control
Rig is set to ft 892
Serial port com 3
Baud rate 9600 same as radio
Data bits 8
Stop bits 2
Handshake none
Nothing selected for dtr or rts
If you don’t have any other recording devices it’s ok to have Digirig as default.
You certainly don’t want to send the notifications audio into Digirig’s playback device.
On the output to radio, select left channel. PTT is CAT. Please check out the setup tutorial for these and other important setting recommendations:
This morning i checked in the js8 settings, the notification soundcard and it wasnt the digirig (speakers). I changed it to the digirig, then i changed it back. Still does the intermittent less than a second.transmitt.
found out the lifepo4 charger was the bulk of the rf culprit on js8 causing the tx of less than a second. Now, it seems no one can hear me. Howver, i still get it on winlink.
When i close js8, and restart it, usually the next day or after a restart/shutdown of the computer, it changes the notification sound card to the computer soundcard and i need to change it back.
