Digirig, Flrig, and 9600 baud CAT cable with FTM-400xdr

Anyone know the settings for this setup? There isnt a default profile for the FTM-400xdr in FLrig so looking for setting possibilities… Cant seem to get the rig control to work with this radio as of yet.

I’ve got the same radio and purchased the cable, but I have not had time to dig into it yet. At this point, I had only tested my laptop software by manually tuning the radio and said I’d go back to try and get Flrig/Fldigi working via CAT when I noticed the same (ie- no profile).

FTM-400xdr has no CAT control capabilities. I set up a dummy flrig for it so that any CAT requests go to FLRIG and no further. I’m not at my rig right now so I can’t post the flrig setting. You set the PTT to COM and RTS. I’ve validated the setup using wsjt-x.

Hi there,

The 9600 baud CAT cable works if you just use it for packet but doesnt work for CAT control currently…Ive been playing around with it, but have only got it to work on packet. This is for the FTM-400XDR

I just hooked it up again…its been a while. Its working with the ht cord and aprs is off and com port is on and set to 9600 in aprs menu. I used the settings from the digirig website for reference on all other settings with a win 11 laptop O/S.

Any other questions you can pm me and ill send you my phone #.

HI, I just purchased the digi rig and was curious if you might be able to help? I’m trying to use it with pinpoint aprs and when I connect the TNC the FTM 400 will continuously transmit till I disconnect it. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but any help would be appreciated. I’m using Windows 10 currently as well

Just to clarify: Digirig is not a TNC, but a sound card based interface.
Now, does the radio key up when you connect Digirig without running the software?

No it doesn’t only when I connect the TNC through the software. Then it continuously stays in transmit mode and doesn’t unkey until I disconnect it from the software.

What happens is that you are initializing Digirig’s serial port for the data payload (something you’d do with the actual TNC) and that activates the RTS signal of the port which in Digirig controls the PTT. What you need is a virtual TNC software such as soundmodem or varaFM between the software you are using and your Digirig.

Please check out some of the online tutorials for using packet modes with sound card based interfaces.

Ok I actually do have VARA fm.

Got it to actually connect after VARA fm. So thanks for the info, should I leave the aprs modem on or off?

many dual band/dual display radios will let you set the tnc to the ‘a’ band while keying up the ‘b’ band with mic or acc port.
(or vice versa)
the 400 doesn’t let you ‘use’ the tnc from outside the radio so leaving the tnc on would only be good for sending an aprs beacon or msg from the radio itself as well as decoding aprs data.
(the internal tnc will send received aprs strings out the data port but not accept them from a pc)

good luck
