Digirig issue with Winlink vara hf

I have successfully set up my new Digirig Mobile to use vara FM on my Anytone dual band radio, I would like to use it with my Yaesu FTdx10 for vara HF. I pretty much got it set up. CAT works fine. Can’t connect yet. I noted that my ALC when transmitting just goes to “0” when it should be at 1/3. I have played with the sound card settings on vara hf but it doesn’t move the needle at all. Kind of wondering how to get this to work so I will actually transmit a useable signal.

What model Anytone radio?

OK, I see you are working with your Yaesu FTdx10.

Yes. I am pleased with how well everything is working with the Digirig on my Anytone using vara FM. I am now trying to get the vara hF working on the Ftdx10. Actually, it looks like everything is working. However, I can’e adjust the ALC to the recommended 1/3. I am using a PC with Windows 11 for the computer.

If you are referring to the “1/3 ALC” in the VARA window, that is guidance, not a recommendation. It is not an ideal you should be aiming for with Yaesu radios. For low VARA data rates, ALC isn’t bad, but if you’d like to achieve any of the high carrier PSK rates, little to no ALC is the goal.

If you have zero power out, you may have the wrong DATA MOD source selected or the wrong REAR selected. Or, you need to adjust the Windows sound playback level and RPORT GAIN.

Matt,
That is very helpful. I was thinking I had to be at 1/3 ALC for it to work. I am near zero ALC and I am getting power out.
