I use my lite with an iPad and Kenwood for packet and it works great.
I would like to use the iPad with the iFTx app for FT8 on my Xiegu 6100. With a USBC-USBC cable I can read FT8 but I can’t get the radio to PTT.
Xiegu staff says -
Since Apple does not support serial devices on iOS, iFTx cannot implement CAT control to control the radio (setting frequency or key PTT). Therefore you need other means to key the transmitter when iFTx sends out a signal, either a built in VOX functionality in the radio, but from what I could read on the Internet, the X6100 probably does not have VOX.
This leaves you only with one option unfortunately, using a digital mode interface that has a VOX circuit built-in, like the DigiRig Lite.
the digirig lite model supports PTT via ‘cm108’/‘RA-Board’/GPIO (all the same thing but different programs have their own naming conventions) AND VOX.
so, you should be able to crank up the volume on the ipad in order to trigger the VOX circuit in the digirig lite.
the digirig lite ‘looks’ for audio on the right channel in order to engage.
some pc software would actually send a single tone on the ‘trigger channel’ and the data audio on the other channel.
you just need to get enough audio into the right (of the left/right stereo output) channel to trigger the dr lite vox.
the dr lite will send data to the radio on the left channel.
UNLESS iftx supports ‘ra-board’/‘gpio’/‘cm108’ for PTT, then you can use that and it will work even better
Yes, Digirig’s VOX will take care of keying up your Xiegu.
Next question is wiring. PTT and radio’s audio input is on mic connector, audio output can be collected from the S/P connector:
