I successfully set up my Digirig Mobile with an FTM-300DR. Worked great.
I then purchased the cable for my FT-70D, Yaesu HT Audio/PTT Cable YAESUHTMOBILE.
Two questions.
Is the Digirig mobile the correct model?
Which end of the cable goes into the radio? The straight or the angle connector?
This doesn’t appear to be a software configuration issue. I’ve used SoundModem and Direwolf with Signalink (including the FT-70), EasyDigi and scratch built from the junk box.
Yes, you can use your Yaesu HT with any Digirig model. The straight connector goes into Digirig’s audio socket. The angled connection goes into radio’s accessory port.
You can test the connection by simulating PTT from Digirig’s end of the cable as demonstrated here:
After posting, I set the project aside. Later, I pulled out an ohm meter and had come to the conclusion that the right-angled plug went to the HT. I also found that it would decode correctly but hang-up on transmit. Changed to an external antenna, just a mobile stick on a camera tripod and everything started working.
I had run into similar issues with my TH-F6 and an EasyDigi. Could never get the Kenwood to work well when plugged into external power. Tried all sorts of ferrite beads and different supplies but not an external battery.
Again, thank you for the quick response. It is nice to have verification on a solution.
I just got the PTT VOX cable to use with RadioMail and I don’t know whether to be frustrated, confused, or irritated. Is it basically a 3.5mm male-to-female with a ferrite bead? I still need other cables to plug into the FT-70. I tried all sorts of combos of cables, sound cards, etc from DigiRig with no success.
Has anyone had FT-70 success with RadioMail and digirig products? If so, how so please?
No, please refer to the product page for the description.
Yes, you’ll need a transceiver cable specific to the model the radio being interfaced. In your case it’s a Yaesu HT cable.
Please describe what exactly you attempted and what results you got and we’ll take it from there.
VOX PTT cable is still considered experimental, but it is known to work in most cases. The major criterium is the ability of your computing device to supply sufficient volume to trigger the PTT switch. If you have other Digirig interfaces, my recommendation would be to start with a powered interface such as Digirig Lite. There is a detailed setup tutorial for the product which will save you a lot of frustration.
