My Digirig mobile/TM-V71A combo works great for WoAD but I have yet to get it to work with APRSdroid. Gave up a long time ago but would like to get it working. When I set Connection Protocol to “TNC (KISS)” and hit Start Tracking, it engages the PTT and never stops unless I Stop Tracking. Choosing “Audio(AFSK)” never engages PTT. Any ideas?
Digirig is not a tnc, kiss, or otherwise.

You must select:
Audio (afsk)
As the connection protocol
As far as ptt goes, another version of aprsdroid was said to add RTS as a ptt trigger, as well as add gpio (as found on digirig lite)
Choosing kiss tnc is causing the digirig mobile rts line to close. This is the ptt source.
Good luck

Digirig Mobile implements PTT by RTS and PTT by CAT. At the time of wringing nether of the methods are supported by APRSdroid.
There are versions of the app that were modified by the community members to support PTT by RTS. See links in the discussions. Also this:
Thanks for the clarification. Dumb question… what’s different about WoAD that it works so well?
Thanks! I’ll check it out
aprsdroid was started quite some time ago and of course, aprs, most commonly, is simply 1200baud packet. (there are alternative HF modes and high speed packet backbones but that’s another story)
the ‘interfaces’ at the time were limited to ‘real live hardware’ TNC devices for the most part (for smartphone mobile hamming). some USB connected, some bluetooth connected.
either way, a ‘real’ TNC simply takes serial commands/data from the host and then does all the radio+audio stuff itself.
the TNC knows how to key a radio when it wants to, rather than the software triggering it by another ‘circuit/device/interface’.
mobilinkd bluetooth tnc is one of my favorites
(no wires and aprsdroid plays very well with it. woad too)
so basically, quite a change to the code to add keying up the radio by ‘alternative methods’

woad developer, from the start, was ‘aware’ of 2 most common alternative keying methods for soundcard interfaces. serial port RTS/DTR toggling, and gpio.
on top of that, you still get ‘real hardware tnc’ support as well.)
one usb cable from my TH-D72a to my galaxy S7 gives me WoAD packet AND remote control. pick a gateway and WoAD will set the frequency on the 72a)
outstanding bit of kit for sure.
aprsdroid simply started out a long time ago and the development is up to other programmers now.
it happens
