Digirig Mobile w/ Yaesu FT3D not keying

I have set up the Digirig with Linux Mint and Direwolf for Pat Winlink. It works properly with an Anytone 878UV. When I unplug that radio from the Digirig and plug in the cable for the Yaesu HT, it sometimes works, usually does not. When it doesn’t work, the receive indicator turns off (if on with open squelch) and the screen menu flashes between the receive F MW|TX FM|MODE bottom menu to DTMF| | menu that typically displays with the PTT is pressed. If the squelch is active, the same thing happens except the receive indicator was already off. As best I can see, the LED does not blink red indicating transmit at all. When I unplug the cable from the Digirig and short the sleeve to the nearest ring, the radio keys normally. Audio is received from the radio. I don’t know of anything I’ve done differently between when it works and when it does not. I have another Digirig on another system that exhibits the same behavior. Thoughts?

With two different Digirigs exhibiting the same behavior it is unlikely that the problem is with the interface. It’s not a cable either since you can reliably simulate the PTT by shorting the pins. Could be an RFI issue - try transmitting with a dummy load and/or at minimum power.

I went back and restested - my initial thoughts were WAY off. Yes, it is the Digirig. I have three of them, one was still in the box. One of them doesn’t work properly - it wasn’t related to the radio or cable. RF issues seemed unlikely because I was connected to an external antenna. It still works with the attached whip, even with the highest power setting on the HT.

Thank you for the update. Do I understand correctly only one of your three Digirigs is exhibiting the issue with PTT?

Yes, but it’s not that simple. I submitted a support email and already received a reply from Denis. It turns out this one does work also, just not on this computer, this cable, and this USB-C port. It did work on a Windows computer on another cable, and also works on this computer with a different cable to a USB-A port. So it’s a little weird. Another device works just fine on the USB-C port. Unplug it and plug this one in its place, it doesn’t work. Change cables and computer ports, it works. There’s no urgency - I’ll simply use it with a different computer or a different port on this computer. If you want to dig deeper to sort out details on why, I’m glad to help.
