Hi,
I have a friend whose USB ports are blown on his FTDX-10 transceiver. This was confirmed by Yaesu. Yaesu wanted $900.00 to replace the main board so we started looking at other options. We contacted Denis and he recommended purchasing the Kenwood TS480 DigiRig setup (DigiRig and cables) and then using the RS-232 port on the FTDX-10 and 6 Pin DIN Data connector to get us back on the air with FT8. We are successful in controlling the radio via CAT control and in seeing incoming decodes. The problem is that we can not seem to adjust the gain of the audio out to get the ALC meter to even move or get more than 5W of transmit power. Tried numerous Windows 10 sound settings and adjusted the digital gain on the radio menu. Nothing seems to change. We are using WSJT-X v3.1.0 improved PLUS.
Anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions for a fix?

i don’t have your radio but does the ftdx-10 require a mode called pkt or data or similar to use the packet jack? (legacy name for that 6 pin din)
(rather than ‘digital’ or ‘USBport’ etc.)
some radios switch the 6 pin ‘packet’ jack in/out of the audio chain via mode or menu.

Thanks for your input. Yes it does have settings for data that direct the mic input and audio output through the 6 pin DIN connector. Because we are able to receive and decode FT8 and transmit albeit at low power, I believe we have them configured correctly.
qsl, next would be to plug in a set of stereo earbuds/headphones to the digirig audio+ptt jack and check if audio is present when you click tune in wsjt-x
if so, how much
on my wsjt-x + digirig mobile into icoms, i have the ouput channel set to L.
i also have the digirig mobile entry in mmsys.cpl set to 90% on the output slider.
i also unchecked the ‘exclusive control’ box
since you’re decoding FT8, the input is at a minimum, ‘in the ballpark’.

Thanks again for your input. Since the audio jack on the DigiRig is occupied by the connector on the DigiRig Mobile that goes between the the radio 6 pin DIN Data jack and DigiRig, I am not sure how to accomplish what you are suggesting. That might work if the audio stream was through USB, but that is not the setup that we have. Our setup uses the Serial jack on the DigiRig Mobile to connect to the RS-232 port on the radio for CAT control, the 6 pin DIN data connector on the radio connects to the Audio jack on the DigiRig. The 6 pin DIN connection provides the audio path.
you unplug the audio + ptt cable from the digirig.
plug in a set of earbuds to check if audio is presented at the digirig audio + ptt jack when you press tune in wsjt-x
in other words, jack the digirig audio into your ears instead of the radio
just trying to ‘see’ how much audio is coming out of the digirig when you TX (tune or qso) in wsjt-x
if there is a lot of audio in the earbuds/headphones, then the issue is the radio input or possibly the digirig audio+ptt cable.
if there is very little audio in the earbuds/headphones, the issue is somewhere from the digirig mobile back to the pc os/software settings

I get your point now. The audio for transmit is coming from the computer via the USB path.. Duh!
