This is a new setup using the UZ7HO packet engine.
I bought the 6 pin mini din cable that K0TX recommended
to be used on VHF for APRS. I could not get Direwolf to work
so I changed to UZ7HO.
I still can’t get the rigs PTT to work.
UZ7HO is set to use Com17 for PTT.
Com17 is the com port for Digirig.
KISS server port is 8100 in both UZ7HO and PinPoint and it
is enabled in UZ7HO. The TCP/IP address is left at 127.0.0.1.
How do I know if that’s correct?
The RX and TX audio are correct, I am receiving packets on UZ7HO.
TNC Type in PinPoint is set to network KISS mode and it is set
to connect automatically when PinPoint starts.
I turned off the APRS-IS so all transmitted packets should be RF now.
When I pick “Send Position Beacon” in Pinpoint, nothing happens.
the rig does not transmit.
Not familiar with PinPoint. From the looks of it the configuration appears to be ok.
Either PinPoint is not engaging Soundmodem for transmission or Soundmodem is not engaging Digirig for transmission.
Make sure COM17 is indeed Digirig Mobile and set for PTT by RTS. The PTT config is different with Digirig Lite.
Try same Soundmodem configuration with different client software e.g. Winlink
Got it to work.
For anyone setting up APRS with Digirig, UZ7HO, and PinPoint using an IC-746Pro
here are my settings.
Digirig:
Use the 6 pin mini din cable for use in the Data port on the IC-746Pro.
I used the CI-V cable, but do not believe it is needed.
Got TX and RX audio from Digirig ok.
Got a com port OK. Make sure you install the correct drivers.
UZ7HO:
Settings, Devices:
Set the input and output audio you see in Device manager.
Check “Single channel output”. All others unchecked.
Check KISS Server Port 8100 as Enabled.
PTT Port: Select CAT from the dropdown list. Uncheck the remaining boxes in PTT Port.
Pick the “Advanced PTT Settings” button.
Select IC-746Pro for the radio.
Select com port, (mine is com17).
set baud rate (mine is 9600), parity - none, Stop bits - 1, DTR - Off, RTS - On. Pick Apply.
Settings Modem:
Pretty much default, I checked both “KISS Optimization” and the “non-AX25 filter”.
Only using one modem so “B” is not used.
PinPoint:
Options - TNC:
Set TNC type to “network KISS mode”.
Check the :Connect TNC automatically … box.
Serial TNC Settings - Not Used.
Network KISS TNS Settings: TCP/IP left default.
Port changed to 8100 to match UZ7HO.
Using this setup the rig now transmits when I send a position report from PinPoint.
To understand what settings I needed I set up UZ7HO with a Digirig and Winlink packet.
I had to download a ptt-dll file from UZ7HO web site and put it in the UZ7HO soundmodem folder
so I could set up the PTT.
This is probably an ODD setup but I hope it helps someone using the same stuff.
