DigiRig Question

What is the difference between the default Digirig vs the Digirig w/RS232? I’ve got a FRM-6000 and was advised to select the 232 option for 9600 baud data. If this device has a RS252 output, can I use a DB9 to USB connection if my computer doesn’t have a DB9, or does the device have USB only? Also…just because I have to select RS232 for this Digirig, can I still use it for 1200 baud w/the 1200 baud cable for this radio?

the difference is the ‘remote control’ protocol.

icom radios, for instance, use ci-v. ttl level with only 1 wire for tx/rx and 1 wire for ground.

rs232 option has a higher voltage than ttl. if you see a db9 connector on the radio, that’d be rs232.

that explains better/more detailed.

NOW, to answer the question i ‘think’ you’re asking.

the on the air packet/vara/whatever transmission speed has nothing to do with the remote control/cat/ci-v setup of the digirig.

so, if you’re wanting to work 9600 baud packet, any digirig will do it.
(assuming you’ve got a suitable software tnc running)

i’m not familiar with the frm-6000 but if it has a packet jack, you want to have a cable from the digi to the radio that connects the digi audio out to the radio 9.6k audio in.

there’s more to it but there is more info needed about your radio and desired operation.

good luck

It’s the Yaesu FTM-6000 that I’m referring to. Sorry for the typo

no worries.

i should have said;
i’m not familiar with most yaesu.

looks like that rig has a 10pin din.
on the yaesu website, they have a 10pin to dsub+6pin din (packet) cable.
so i guess that rig would use an rs232 configured digirig.

i hope someone that has experience will answer your question though.
