Digirig sends out mic oudio but no PTT

Made up a cable for my Kenwood TM-281. Pinouts for the Mic audio and PTT are correct, tested by shorting sleeve to Ring 2 and radio goes into transmit mode. Checked TX audio going to radio and there is good mic input signal from the Digirig but it does not drop PTT with audio present.

Any suggestions?

That sounds frustrating. Take a look at Troubleshooting Digital Modes – digirig

I would first try reseating each of the physical connections. Then look at Sticky PTT/Errors on Transmission.

Is your radio Kenwood TM-281a or some other version?

It is a Kenwood TM-281.

All the physical connections were reseated and I scoped the mic line in the TM-281 - it is receiving the audio signal from the Digirig. The PTT line never transitions when audio is output from the Digirig. Sent audio to the Digirig from the Sound settings and from VarAC. Digirig does output audio but no PTT transition.

Alright, realized PTT is tied to Com port assigned to the device. Set the COM port and PTT is now working, but audio from radio is very low even with level set max. Tested radio with Signalink and audio is good so need to doublecheck the pinouts on the mic cable again. Will use a breadboard to prove out the connections.

Rebuilt the cable. Mic audio line was shorted. Tested and now operational.
