DIGIRIG with YAESU FT-817 and FT-818ND

Hi guys,
My question about the Digirig system,
What are the differences between the two Tranciver models Yaesu FT-817 and FT-818ND?

I have both Trancivers and I’m not sure if I can use the Digirig for both or are there limitations?

I like the compactness of the Digirig so much but I don’t know if I lose out on the audio quality with the sound card?

Same Digirig kit will work for both models.
You’ll need Digirig Mobile in logic levels configuration, FT-8xx cables set and a USB cable.

I have the cables for my FT-817/digirig. I have Winlink Express and Telnet installed and working on my Windows 10 PC. I want to connect the 817 to Winlink. Anything else I need? How do I go about making the connection? I need all the help I can get. Thanks, Emmett, WA5EWN

Depending on the band and digipeaters available in your area you’ll need to add VaraFM, VaraHF or soundmodem apps and make the appropriate selection in your Winlink’s session list. There are lots of Digirig configuration examples for each of those in this forum and demos on youtube.

Feel free to follow up if you run into a specific issue with the setup.

Thanks Denis. Which works better, soundmodem or Vara? Or, do I need both? Emmett

These two “speak” different data encoding languages. You use one that matches the language of the remote station (packet or vara).
