DR 891 Cat Issue

Installed DR 891 about three weeks ago and was over the moon pleased with the ease of install and the results with WSJT-X. Yesterday I noticed each time WSJT-X issued a CAT command the FT-891 would default Data USB to USB. I’m using CAT for PTT with USB as the Mode. CAT Test goes green without changing Mode. PTT Test keys transmit and shifts Mode from DU to USB. FT-891 Menu 08-10 Data PTT Select is DAKY and 08-12 Data BFO is USB. Thoughts, suggestions?

Could be some RFI disrupting the CAT. Does this happen if you connect radio’s USB port directly to the computer? Does it happen on all bands or with minimal RF power?

i don’t know anything about the 891 but if you’re using the rear port, shouldn’t wsjt-x be set to use data/pkt instead of uppersideband (USB) ?

i’m probably just reading your post wrong.

Good test. Yes, still happens if I bypass the DR891 and go direct. Same result using the USB Isolator. Turned power down and it continues to occur. Weird.

USB in the computing sense. Universal Serial Bus.

See if this make any sense of the situation:

from the link:

In WSJT-X you set up the RADIO settings normally but instead of selecting DATA/PKT you select USB, this keeps the 891
in USB mode. If DATA/PKT is selected this will put the 891 into USB-D (DATA) mode.

yeah, that’s what i was thinking of for that radio.
the desired ‘mode’ D-uppersideband or Uppersideband should be ‘forced’ by the menu option on the radio page of wsjt-x
none, UpperSideBand, or data/pkt(translates to D-uppersideband on the 891).
none would leave the radio in whatever mode it ‘started’ in and never change when issuing cat commands for frequency or ptt.

with my old icoms, selecting data/pkt in wsjt-x does nothing as there is no ‘cat’ command for it with those radios.

with the xiegu g90, data/pkt selection causes the radio to switch between mic/spk and rear accy port (with the latest firmware) and displays D-Uppersideband.

in any case, hope the OP has good luck ironing it out
