This happens intermittently. Everything works after a cold start with my PC and FT-891, but it suddenly stops working.
SYMPTOM: When I choose TX frequency in the lower or higher range while using the “Fake It” VFO, WSJT-X 2.6.1 switches the VFO on TX and brings it back on RX. For example, when it sends data, VFO tunes to 7.073 and back to 7074 on receive.
However, WSJT-X fails to switch it back to 7074 after a while. So, VFO is still at 7073 on the next RX and tunes to 7072 on TX.
Yes, for the test you can run audio through Digirig and CAT through a direct connection to computer. BTW: if the issue only surfaces after the first attempt at transmission, but never before that then it likely has to do with RFI.
Also, the issue seems to occur only AFTER the vehicle power shuts down. My car has an 18A e-fuse, and I installed my FT-891. Some other accessories also consume 12V power, so sometimes, I forget to disconnect my PC power cable, causing the e-fuse to trip. This will shut down the FT-891. After the power recovery, everything works except the RX frequency on receive. Interestingly, even in this situation, I can switch RX frequency manually by selecting the “7.074MHz” in the WSJT-X menu. Still, during the QSO, I have to change the RX frequency to 7.074 after TX manually.
BTW, this is a great product! It’s so easy to set up, store in the glove box, and operate HF FT8 wherever I go in just three minutes! Thank you for creating such a innovative product.
Do you notice any change in hardware SPL setting in the radio before and after the power failure? It is possible that the split effect double ups between the transceiver Split setting and split simulated via the CAT commands.
@K0TX, Thanks for the reply, and I’m sorry for replying to you late. Yesterday I did some more tests.
(1) You’ve mentioned RFI. I had lowered the power to 8W, and the issue persists after the vehicle powers down. When WSJT-X tried to change the frequency from TX to RX, the CAT command did not work and stayed on the wrong frequency.
(2) The Split settings didn’t change after the vehicle powered down.
(3) I also changed WSJT-X settings from Fake It to Rig (=split operation). It actually seems to work! Whenever I change the TX frequency on WSJT-X, it is correctly reflected on VFO-B while VFO-A always stays on the RX frequency.
So, I still don’t understand why the “Fake It” setting didn’t work on my setup, but the “Rig” settings did work.
