Hi, new to digirig and received my dr-891 at the weekend. I’ve been having trouble getting it set up. I’m connecting it using a Digirig cable (the curly one, got it from amazon)
The audio devices appear and I can set them up as suggested but nothing appears for the silicon labs bridge (I don’t even get a Ports section in device manager).
I have tried the driver install anyway and have rebooted everything a few times and tried different USB ports with no luck. I have run the device trouble shooter and windows update as well and that didn’t help.
I’m usually a mac person and my Mac has usb-c so I thought I’d try with that, and with a completely different cable. I did the “ls /dev/tty.*” and only had two entries for bluetooth things. After plugging the dr-891 in I waited a while and ran it again but nothing new was added. I did see a new device appear in the sound part of the settings though and that disappears when I unplug the dr-891.
I’m at a bit of a loss what to try next. All suggestions gratefully received. I have screenshots of a lot of this but didn’t want to bloat the thread, can post on request.
Just to add, I’ve not plugged anything else into the dr-891 yet. Just the usb from the computer , not connected to the radio at all, in case that makes a difference. This is as per the instructions but they’re for the regular model.
John,
The COM port will appear when you connect your radio.
With DR-891 the interface doesn’t have its own serial port, but allows a USB pass through to the USB-to-serial bridge inside of FT-891.
Yes, DR-891 is a recent addition to the lineup and the support materials will have to improve. There are tutorial videos that are now starting to pop up on youtube, that make things a bit easier for the operators.
I am having a similar issue with my DR891. I ordered it a few months ago and it was on backorder, and received it. Finally got around to trying it with my FT-891. I am not showing any ports and am showing "Unknown USB device (Port reset failed) in my USB controllers. I have a couple of the standard digirigs as well and they work great. Any ideas?
