I am using the DR-891 to connect my Yaesu FT-891 to my laptop.
I am using the usb cable and cat cable from digirig. I can receive signals no problem and decode them, however currently I am unable to transmit through the computer/digirig.
Every time WSJT-X tries to transmit I get a rig error. Furthermore with the help of Ham Radio Deluxe I tried to see what happens when I transmit on SSB. The results of that experiment are that every time I press the PTT on the mic and speak, Ham Radio Deluxe loses connection to my transceiver.
Also, I tried the above on my desktop computer which did not have any of the above programs before. With no difference.
According to the troubleshooting guide I plugged two (one at the time) 3.5mm stereo headphones into Digirig’s audio socket, to test if there is audio from the computer. I heard nothing.
It’s RFI. You might want to add a ferrite choke on the feedline.
For the troubleshooting purposes try reducing TX power to a minimum value and/or use a dummy load. This should stop kicking out the USB connection.
Let’s try using Digirig for audio while bypassing it for CAT control. Please use a direct USB connection between the radio and computer. Do you still get rig error on transmit?
Thanks for the info.
Just to clarify, prior to transmitting are you able to use CAT for switching the bands and syncing the VFO between the computer and radio?
OK, I did a couple more tests using only 5W. Even when bypassing digirig for cat control, sometimes it works ok and others I get rig errors. Could it be RFI as you mentioned previously?
Yes, it’s a good possibility when things are working alright up to the moment when you try to transmit. Do you have a dummy load to see if error goes away with it connected?
