I purchased a Digirig DR-891 for my Ft-891. As I was hooking the USB cable into the port on my computer (a DELL) laptop, I noticed the transceiver made a clicking sound (receive to transmit) followed by the following message on my computer (see screen shot below). How do I fix this? Thanks! de John, N9WKW
Do you receive this message when DR-891 connected to the computer, but radio is not connected to Digirig?
No - the radio is connected to the digirig. The radio was turned on when I connected the digirig to the computer
Try connecting DR-891 without radio being connected to the Digirig. Do you receive the same error message?
What I’m trying to determine is which of the USB devices causes the error. This could be Radio’s COM port, Digirig’s sound card or both.
I do not get an error message when only the DR-891 is connected to my computer
Do you get the error message when you connect the transceiver’s USB-B port directly to the computer?
I can’t connect the other end of the USB-B directly to the computer- it has phono plugs on it ( the plugs which go into the DR-891)
Yes, you’ll need to use a regular USB-B to USB-A cable like those used in printers and scanners.
Ok - I’ll give it a try
I got a USB-A to USB-B cable, plugged it in, and did not get any error messages. I looked in the Devices & Printers folder, and noticed the CP2105 Dual USB to UART Bridge Controller showing up ( which Grays out after unplugging the cable from the computer
Let’s check the continuity of the USB cable that came with the DR-891 kit to further narrow the scope of troubleshooting.
Each pin on the Digirig side should connect to one pin on the USB-B side.
I have a multimeter and was able to test the continuity with both cables. I got a “beep” sound, which I believe means the cables are good.
Just as a side note: I was able to get the new USB-A to printer cable (which I got earlier) to key the transceiver. I used WSJT-X and noticed the transceiver frequency was matching the frequency on WSJT (eg., when I would change the band on WSJT, the transceiver correspondingly changed as well).
Yes, beeps indicates continuity. For each contact on one side there should be continuity to one contact on the other side of the cable.
Sounds like you got the CAT control working using a direct USB connection between the transceiver and the computer. Do you still receive error when connecting transceiver through DR-891?
