DR-981 Frustrations

I recently ordered & received a DR-891. I have watched numerous youtube videos & followed the setup guide on the Digirig website. I got it working well on 20m this morning. But when I switched to another band WSJTX starts kicking out the error message: “An error occurred during read from the audio input device” If I go back to 20m the error message stops appearing.
Has anyone else seen this issue? Do u have any suggestions, I will post the more detailed full error msg below.
Many thanks & 73,
Neil - K6KWI

Neil, please refer to “Notes Regarding RFI” section of the setup guide.

Thank you Denis, I had a read thru those notes & yes I see that could be the issue. I’ll try putting a choke on the coax & give it another go. 73

also, what’s your antenna setup?

low/no rfi when working one band yet rfi on another band may point to an impedance mismatch.

more or less, an antenna not so hot on another band causing the interference.
getting a match from the tuner keeps the radio alive but distorts the radiation pattern from the radiator. sometimes, it seems, pointed right at the hamshack!

i’ve got an antenna i like to use quite a bit but always gripes on 40m phone portion.

Good morning KB0WLF,

I use a linked dipole, so each band I select is resonate. There is no tuner inline.
The exact same setup worked fine with my signalink prior to going in this direction.
I’ll look into this issue with rfi and try a choke on the feed line.
Thanks for getting back to me!!!

absolutely.

a resonant dipole on each band certainly rules out a lot!
have a fan dipole for 17/10 that sees a lot of use here.

A quick way to check if it’s an RF issue is to turn the tx power down as low as it will go. If it then works correctly on all bands you know it is RF getting into the radio and PC.

I’m having this same problem, on both my laptop and my desktop - both Win 11.

What gets me here is that the DigiRig Mobile works great. I don’t believe it’s an RFI issue - it still happens on low power or dummy load.

What else I find strange is that in the config menu for wsjt, the Test PTT button works as expected. It’s only in the app when you try to Tx or Tune that this problem crops up.

UPDATE:

I stand corrected - I had the DR Mobile on when testing with the dummyload. The DR891 seems to operate as expected with the dummy on. Interesting.
