DR891 Not Showing Up Under Com Ports in Windows 10

DR891 with Digirig USB C to USB A cable and radio cables arrived today. I followed the instructions in the DR891 setup guide but there is no PORTS section showing up in my device manager at all. I tried following instructions i found her in other threads to install the correct driver ( CP210x Universal Windows Driver and I’ve installed the driver but when I unplug the cable and plug it back in nothing changes. And when I try to manually update the driver it doesn’t show up as file that I can select, I can see the folder its in but not the file.

I’ll attach a pic of my device manager, as far as i can tell by unplugging and plugging back in, its showing up as USB composite device and Generic USB hub under universal serial bus controllers section, and USB Audio device under the Sound Video and Game Controllers section.

Please Help!

Update - I found a thread where someone had installed a com port through the add legacy hardware option in device manager so I tried adding the silicone labs driver and my device manager now looks like this but the driver does not seem to communicating with the device as it says there when I unplug it.

My USB UART bridge looks like this in device manager:

I do not use the install legacy hardware option, just install. I also use the extract function in the file manager, not an unzip tool. I am in Win11, not Win10, so may not be helpful to you.

Ok, I uninstalled the one I installed with the add legacy hardware option, downloaded the driver again, followed the instructions in the video and like you said in the previous comment. And there is still no com port in my device manager, i tried scanning for new hardware and unplugging and plugging back in.

Maybe the link to the driver is pointing to one that is out-of-date.

Ok I tried it all again with that one and it’s still not showing up. Is there anything else I can do after installing besides unplugging/plugging in or scanning for hardware changes? Also It shouldn’t matter that the radio isnt connected should it? Just the Digirig Cable connected to the Digirig.

It does matter that the radio is not connected. DR-891 doesn’t have serial port in the interface, the ports are coming from the radio.

Oh ok well perhaps that is the problem! Does it matter which radio is connected? From what I read on the site I thought the DR-891 would work with limited functionality with other radios and I was trying it with my Yaesu VX6r since its raining and I cant get my HF antenna deployed for the FT-891.

You can connect other radios, but only FT-891 will show up with ports.
For other radios use PTT by GPIO3 (AKA RA.Board or HID) or PTT by VOX similar to Digirig Lite.

Ok so is the fact that a port is not showing up in device manager not actually a problem because Im using a different radio? And are those separate devices you’re suggesting?

OK. Setup is explained here:

I was referring to the methods for keying up the radio (PTT - push to talk) that are available for other transceiver models while using DR-891 interface.

OK! Hooked up the FT-891 and I’m now seeing the two com ports and a new speaker and mic like in the set up guide. So I’m assuming that means I’m ready to move onto configuring the radio?

Also could you give me a little more info or point me to another thread on what I would need to use the DR-891 with other radios like the Yaesu VX6 or Anytone 778UV?

For setup with FT-891 please refer to the product documentation at:

For setup of DR-891 with other radios you can check out some configuration examples for Digirig Lite:
