Elecraft KX-3 and Windows, Linux, Android

For what it is worth I’ve been encountering the same issue for more than a year now. A little background:

Radio: Elecraft KX3

Interface: Digirig Mobile

Cables: All Digirig Branded for the computers (USB ‘A’ connector). Generic USB C for Android.

Computers: Windows 10, Linux Mint, Android

Android and Linux instantly recognized the interface and I was off to the races, mostly using JS8 Call. A little bit of tinkering with drivers and Windows works as well. I initially started on the windows machine, leaving everything plugged in, and used it happily over multiple days. Then one day the interface just went quiet. CAT control still worked however. I never found a solution and by happenstance just left everything unplugged in frustration. I came back to it a few days later and ‘viola’ everything worked. Repeat this cycle a few more times and I developed a procedure to unplug everything after use. I introduced the Linux machine into the mix and exact same deal. Leave everything plugged in too long and it would randomly go quiet. Unplug after use (which usually means several hours of downtime) and it was good to go. Is it real? Is it superstition? I am not much of an electronics guy so I have no idea. I am mostly posting in case it triggers a thought with some clever sort in this forum.

That was a long rambling screed to the TLDR version is:

Platform agnostic, the interface goes quiet when left plugged in, in all cases CAT control is maintained. Let it sit for a bit and it seems to come back.

Thanks for reading.

This situation is uncommon. First report, I think.

Does your Digirig get warm/hot over time?

Hmmm, if this is the first report I’m second guessing that the problem must be on my end. I don’t think it gets hot, no, although I haven’t made any recordable observations in that regard. If you like I’d be happy to drop it in the mail for you to take a look, but otherwise my current solution isn’t a problem for me. I mostly just chimed in in case anyone else had the same issue.

Sure, I’ll take a look at it and replace if needed. Please contact via form at the website.
