New and not sure answered before but i want an external PTT key by using a Y connector and I believe using the sleeve to short to the first ring with the key but not sure and also which cable to do this with.
ring 2 (closest to sleeve) is ptt.
so wire your ‘switch’ to ring 2 and sleeve (ground).
a TRRS male to TRRS double female will give you a ‘splitter’ that you can connect a digirig audio+ptt cable into as well as a homebrew ptt switch.

the naming/labeling convention is:
TRRS
tip ring1 ring2 sleeve
sometimes, someone might start counting from the other direction.
(incorrectly but correcting someone online can get nasty quick)
so the PTT circuit would be ring2 and sleeve
ring2 IS the closest to sleeve but is ring2
