FT-1802M & Digirig Mobile

I recently purchased a new-to-me Yaesu FT-1802M in order to build a dedicated APRS/weather station machine at home. In order to connect the FT-1802M to a computer, I’ll need to bridge with a TNC (in comes the Digirig Mobile).

In looking for a cable for the 1802 I came across the RJ-12 cable made by Digirig for Yaesu. In the description of the cable, it says that it’s compatible with the Digirig Mobile in any configuration. I currently have a Digirig Mobile RS-232 that I bought years back and no longer use/can’t use with my other Yaesu’s which require the Logic Levels version. Prior to purchasing this cable I wanted to see if anyone knew if the RS-232 configuration would work with this cable and the FT-1802M? I realize this may be a dumb question, as the description literally says “compatible with any configuration,” but I wanted to be on the safe side, and save myself double shipping if I just need to buy another Logic Levels version.

i can’t speak about the cable being the correct pinout for the ft-1802m but i can answer the ‘any config’ question.

what that statement means is:
most mobile FM radios do not have a CAT/CI-V/remote control function (not to be confused with programming) so the ‘serial’ communication jack of the digirig mobile is not used at all. only the audio+ptt jack of the digirig mobile is connected. therefore, it makes no difference to the radio what configuration the digirig mobile has.

the audio+ptt jack functions the same and has the same pinout for the TRRS connector regardless of CAT/CI-V/remote control configuration.

good luck
