FT-818, WSJT-X, and Win 11

Well, I’m getting things setup early for Field Day and I’m glad I did ! After multiple iterations I’m worried about Win11 itself.

OK so I have an ASUS laptop with up-to-date Win11. Digirig Mobile with custom cables to FT-818nd. Updated Silicon Labs driver to Dec. 2025. Updated Hamlib in WSJT-x. The plug to ACC port (to serial) seems a little loose but I can make it work. Setting up as usual in Settings, I can get CAT to work just fine. PTT refuses to work, CAT or DTR - doesn’t matter. I put it all on a Win10 laptop and it works just fine with the exact same settings.

Going back to the Win11 laptop, if I use flRig and set as usual, and set CAT in WSJT-x to flRig flRig, WSJT-x works perfectly, PTT and all.

Going to Winlink Express and using Soundmodem as the TNC, the usual settings will not work. Soundmodem by itself finally worked when I set the PTT port to CAT and, in advanced settings, set the com port settings. But, invoking it in Winlink Express, it refused to open the com port. While it was still open with Winlink, I tried Calibrate in Soundmodem and it keyed just fine. Totally confused …

So, I’m not even sure this is the right place to ask for help. BTW, my KX3 with Digirig (different logic) works just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

So, a little more work on this issue - made some revelations . I got out my old SCU-17 - this produces 2 virtual com ports, CAT and PTT. This worked in all cases. Oh, BTW, Winlink Express worked when I realized that using a software modem requires TCP mode - my error. So, the hardware worked but I wanted to use the Digirig.

So, I went back to the Digirig and tried to set up WSJT-x newest version 3.0. CAT worked but PTT refused to activate with either DTR or CAT selected. Soundmodem would work only if I set up PTT through CAT.

The only way to use the Digirig with this radio and WSJT-x is with ‘middleware’ flRig. It works. No idea why I now have to do this, however. Now to work on SkyRoof for SatComm.

I meant RTS - not DTR ! :grimacing:
