FT-891 TX LED Flashing

I was attempting to resolve WIN 11 sound device hijack and changed “?” audio settings.

I have no clue what is causing the LED to flash. It starts flashing as soon as I plug the Digirig usb cable into any computer.

The flashing stops when I unplug the audio cable from the digirig dr891.

The ft-891 is the constant here so I rest the ft-891.

This solved the LED flashing problem. I’m going to add the rig setting back to see if the problem returns.

The issue is with AGC the ft-891 AGC setting. I can not turn AGC completly off. If I try to turn it off I get the same flashing tx led problem.

If I set AGC to auto everything works correctly.

I had a simular problem when I got my 891. I was using a cable for My FT817nd with the digirig for the FT891.

Issue not resolved.

This is strange.

I’m running Win11 on a desktop and the Digirig dr891 and my ft-891 work as they should.

When I plug the DR891 into my NEW gateway laptop which is running win11 just like the desktop pc, the 891 going into a rapidly flashing TX led. This happens with no applications running on the laptop. It doesn’t matter which usb port I use, I get the same issue.

I’m using the cables that came with the DR891.

The issue is still here. So bad that if the rig is in AM mode, the flashing TX will not stop even after turning the rigs RF gain all the way down or off.

The radio keying up is likely caused by VOX PTT circuit in DR-891 receiving audio on the right channel. Do you have anything that may be feeding signal there? If you run any software referencing Digirig’s playback device then send the payload to the left channel only. The VOX PTT circuit can also be disabled in the hardware by removing the connection between VOX pads on the back side of the PCB.

Thanks for the help. I will try the left-channel method if the issue returns. After shutting down my laptop last night, the problem seems to have resolved for now.

I also have a second issue I’m hoping you can help with. I find that I have to turn the RF gain on the FT-891 almost entirely off to keep the signal going into the Digirig at an acceptable level (under 50 dB) in WSJT-X. Do you have any suggestions for managing this?

Verify that you have AGC checkbox unchecked in properties of Digirig’s recording device. Then you should be able to adjust the sensitivity of Digirig’s input with the level slider.
