Sorry for the delay.
most likely, the Samsung is to blame.
this is a screen of DroidSSTV where i have a soundcard plugged into my Samsung S7 active.
a little less than halfway through, i unplug/remove the usb soundcard/digirig and DroidSSTV continues to decode/rx using the built in microphone.
this is likely what’s happening to FT8CN as it does the same thing to me.
the waterfall looks ‘normal’ but nothing is ever decoded.
the signal ‘colors’ on the waterfall brighten/dim according to volume levels but again, nothing is ever decoded.
allowing FT8CN to run WITHOUT a usb soundcard attached to the Samsung DOES result in decodes.
so obviously, something with that generation of Samsung phones, hates usb soundcards.
the audio is being shifted back and forth/up and down which results in no decodes for FT8CN or DroidPSK or DroidRTTY or, as above, DroidSSTV
the ‘next gen’ Samsung, my wife’s S8 happily uses the digirig all day long without complaint.

again, to be clear;
NOTHING is wrong with the digirig product as this behavior is reproduced consistently with several usb soundcards and the Samsung S7 active.
my solution for using the Samsung is a direct audio cable plugged into the 1/8th inch headset jack OR using the digirig vox cable.
using the Xiegu ‘programming’ cable in the usb port for CAT control.
SO, see if you can get decodes by simply placing the phone, with FT8CN running, next to the radio speaker for a tx/rx cycle or two. i’m certain you’ll get decodes with the ‘acoustic coupled’ method

the digirig vox cable is great for DroidSSTV as that app has no provision for any type of ptt triggering.
(i bought the G90 direct audio cable on ebay. came with a TRRS to twin TRS adapter as well)
good luck
