Ft 891 Transmit side tone?
I purchased a digirig for ft-891. Setup and on the air with ease. My only issue is when I transmit I can hear what I call a side tone. (Transmit tone). Is there a program function that I need to turn off to turn this tone off? Volume has nothing to do with this tone. Volume off tone still there.
Is it RFI?
Making all kinds of FT-8 contacts just need to figure out what this transmit tone is.
James,
What is the nature of the tone? Is this something that is generated by the software that you use? To my knowledge there is nothing like that in WSJT-X.
I am using WSJT-X. It is a tone coming from the rig when I transmit. Not sure if it is RFi or a program setting that I am missing. Digirig is working perfectly.
Normally there should be no audio from the transceiver during the transmit phase no matter what it is connected to.
Does the sound come out of the radio’s speakers?
Do you still hear it if you lower RF power to 1W?
You may have a loose coil somewhere in the filters that vibrates under load.
It is definitely coming out of the radio. I have not tried lowering the power to 1W. I will try that. No issues when on SSB. I tried to attach a video but could not.
I think you may be right about it being a loose coil that may be vibrating under load. can live with it just annoying after a while. Do you think it could damage the rig?
With SSB you have to be talking to get the power on the air so you make ambient sound that will drown any coils singing. You can try with the CW key down at full power.
I don’t think there is a damage potential, but over time it may get louder if it’s a loose coil.
