FT8CN with a FT-891 using the new Digirig DR-891

I received my DR-891 today and it functions flawlessly with a windows laptop using WSJTX. It is nice only having to run one cable to the laptop. I figured I may as well try it with a phone running FT8CN. It will change frequency and decodes receive but while it sends the radio into transmit it does not have any power out. I tried every config I could think of DAKY, RTS, DTR, VOX…. As well as settings in the radio one at a time but never did get it to put out power on transmit. If anyone has figured it out or has any suggestions i would appreciate it. It could be as simple as one setting I didn’t try or as sad is FT8CN can’t handle both jobs on one port yet, the choices for the FT891 are in the radio options so I am hopeful.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the new DR-891.
The mobile app settings you listed pertain to PTT. From what you describe it sounds like the radio keys up so PTT is working. Check the audio settings and volume. The payload should be sent to the left channel. If you use VOX then right channel should be getting a fixed tone (preferred) or same payload as left channel (also works).

when the radio goes into transmit, hit the volume + button on your smartphone.
it may even pop up a warning about audio volume when using headset/earphone.

in the same ‘vein’, make sure your audio settings have ‘media’ unmuted.

i use a digirig mobile on a galaxy s7 active into 2 different xiegu.
audio and serial control work fine business.

good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I had the phone volume maxed. I had some time today to think about the issue based on your suggestions and changed menu item 16-14 DATA DATA GAIN from the default of 50 to 84 and I’m putting out 50 watts without having to change the power out. This eliminates one step when switching from Phone to digital as my antenna on my mobile won’t handle more than 50 watts digital.
The gain setting worked on an A7 Lite tablet and a Samsung A14.
