Ok I updated to the 2 cable design the squelch volume decreases but no tone being either generated to heard when trying to set up the vara fm modem.
I hope the 2 cable design eventually works for you. I am not sure what the question is, but the frequency should be simplex and all squelches should be off or 0 when you work with Vara FM.

okay my question is shouldn’t I be hearing some sort of tone when I am setting up the modem nothing happens
yes, on receive you can monitor the “microphone” and on transmit you can monitor with an HT tuned to the frequency.
