Has anyone been able to key up a FT2900? I have a RPI4, digirig mobile and the cable sold for the radio. I have tried Digipi and Direwolf. I did get the iGate work with Direwolf.
Does the radio key up if you simulate the PTT by shorting the pins on Digirig’s end of the cable as demonstrated here?
Close. The radio keys when you short the two middle rings, not the closest two as shown in the video.
FWIW, this is a new Digirig Mobile and cable I bought from Amazon.
Are you using Digirig’s RJ-12 cable: Yaesu RJ-12 Cable for Digirig – digirig
There is a schematic in the product page, you can confirm that all the connections in your cable are correct.
I have the Rigirig RJ-12 cable. Watching the video, it was keying the radio on the first two rings at the base of the plug, away from the tip. Mine keys when shorting the second and third rings.
You can check the continuity of the cable against the schematic published in the product page for the cable.
For good measure I scouted the web for the info on the mic pinout on FT-2900 and it matches Digirig RJ-12 cable.
I’m stuck at moment if the cable is good.
I’m assuming that you can key up the radio using the hand mic, can you please confirm that?
The pinout of the hand mic:
Matches that of the Digirig cable:
You also confirmed that the cable’s connections are matching the schematic:
From what you describe, your radio keys up when you short tip (T) to ring 1 (R1), on Digirig’s end of the cable (4 pin connector), is that correct?
The hand mic is fine. What I was saying is shorting the second and third ring from the base keys the radio with the plug on the Digirig end. That would be shorting R1 and R2 on the schematic to key it. I haven’t confirmed the Digirig cable matches the schematic (yet).
Thank you for the clarification. Please check the cable to confirm the wiring.
Need to find a socket for it. Leads on my meter are too big for the jack. Is it supposed key on R1 and R2?
It may be a normal side effect, depending on the implementation of the radio. The primary PTT method is PTT between GND (sleeve) and PTT (ring 2) lines.
It’s a FT2900. If it’s keying on the wrong rings for Digipi, I don’t know how to fix that. Just looked and I don’t have a way to check the plug. Ordered a breakout board.
The cord is from Digirig and the website says it’s compatible. Are the Digirig and cable sold on Amazon legit?
