IC-7000 Din connection

Just pulled the IC-7000 out of storage to start setting it up. I am running FT857D, AT-878 and AT-578 on Digirig with no issues. The question I have is the cabling for the 7000. I have the ICOM with 13 pin connector. Trying to create the connection. In another topic you share this configuration.

It shows the "Green Cable attached to the CV-V remote jack. I have the 13 pin DIn that only attaches to the ACC (accessory Socket). Do I need another cable to accomplish this?
Also do I attach the audio to the External Speaker jack?
Thank you for you help.

the 13 pin din provides audio in, audio out, and ptt functions.
you do not connect anything to the speaker connector.

the ci-v jack provides remote control of frequency, operating mode, etc.

so if you manually set the frequency and operating mode, you don’t need the ci-v cable.

good luck

Thank you that works. I had to make a few adjustments to the program parameters. Now working on getting it to transmit. I can see the radio transmitting, but do not have output. So now to figure out that issue. The Tune works, the radio goes into transmit, but not hearing any signal on the Handheld I and using to test with. But thanks for answering my question, that did keep me from going down a rabbit hole.

As soon as I wrote this, it started working.
This is running a a Windows 11 Evolve Masetro-Ebook11Gg
4GB 6-Bit
The Radio is a IC-7000, the first radio I brought after getting my General Licence

The FM Winlink setup is Narrow Com/Com5 PTT Pin RTS
Sound Modem is used with no change.

Thanks for the help…

Hello Berry, I to am trying to get my IC-7000 working with VARA FM, I’m using the 6 pin cable and setup for 9600 baud and using a separate cable for CAT. When I hit ping and listen for the data noise on a separate receiver I get nothing, I do have a carrier but no data. So for grins, I change my sound card from Digirig to my laptops internal card and I can hear the data brapp. I have tried every level in the mic and speaker settings and I’m getting no data tone. BTW I do have the radio set to 9600 and I am using the Didgrig cable, not some homebrew cable. So does anyone have any ideas I might try?

you might try swapping your ouput channel if ptt and audio IN is working.
Left for Right etc.

also, what digirig model are you using?

lastly, what is the ‘ping’ function?
is it software outside of the vara software modem?

good luck

I am using the mini din 13 pin. I have not separate cable for the cat.

Hi, tried all of the above, the ping function is the 3rd tab on VARA FM it allows you to see if anyone is home. I have the Digirig mobile. My next test is going to be to listen for any audio on pin 4 of the cable. n6OIL

So here is an update, I do get audio out from the DIN 6 cable and when I listen on my HT I can hear the tones but it’s very faint. So I’m wondering am I overdriving the radio or underdriving it. I have gone from each end of the gain spectrum with no change. I don’t have a scope to measure the output, Icom wants to see 0.4Vp-p (0.2 Vrms). Any Icom wizards have any thing else I need to check? Thanks

found the ping

hadn’t used it yet!

i used my ic-7000 mobile quite a bit many years ago but never using the modulator/detector 9.6k.

it was always 1200baud.
(de/emphasized audio)

the couple times a few of us were trying 9.6k packet on 70cm, my audio into the modulator had to be pretty high to get full deviation out of the rig.

i don’t have the 7000 anymore so i’ll wish you luck.
