Icom 728 configuration

I have a ic-728 and am a beginner with ft8.
(I cond not find the answer via search)
I have a digirig configured for CVI interface and a ICOM DIN8 Digirig Cable Set.
Wsjt-x connects, the cat connection test button is green and I can control the frequency of the radio, so far so good. No idea on how to set ptt.

I cannot however see any received audio (yes the digirig is selected on the 2nd tab), looking at the pinouts this seems to make sense and I would need a 2nd usb soundcard and additional cables for audio in and out?

Can anyone confirm this and/or recommend a source the the extra cables I need, or have I misunderstood entirely?

Thanks in advance for the help

the icom DIN8 cable set is definitely all you need for that rig.
the trrs to ts cable is the C-IV (remote control/cat) cable.
the DIN8 is the audio in/out cable.

make sure the din8 is seated completely in the radio ACC1.
make sure the trrs end is seated completely in the digirig jack.

since you have ‘cat’ connection, you’ve got the angled plug of the cat cable seated in the radio and the trrs end seated in the digirig. good to go.

for ptt, the IC-728 requires:
PTT Method
RTS
same comport you used for C-IV/CAT
..
below that, mode should be USB
(ic-728 won’t recognize the pkt/data mode command)

..

audio section i have:
input mono
output left

the above settings are taken from my IC-736 setup with a digirig mobile

good luck

Skinner,
While troubleshooting the audio you can enable monitoring through computer’s speakers. Just check “listen” box in Digirig’s recording device as demonstrated here:

Thanks webmonkey, I was all confused, knowing it is possible with the kit I had helped me to try again.
I am receiving now and can see the transiver switch to transmit when I enable cq so it looks like it should be working now
Honestly I don’t think I did anything different, and just restarting wsj-x seems to have solved it.

I believe I am connected to acc2 with the cable, which pins are being used for audio in/out?

glad it’s working!

acc1 is 8 pins and has audio
acc2 is 7 pins and does not have audio

the digirig din8 should not be able to plug into the wrong jack.
the 7 pin jack has a solid center.
(a din7 will fit in the din8 jack though)

pins 4 and 5 are audio into the radio and audio from the radio respectively
manual is available at:

good luck

Hi webmonkey, do you use the -20dB attenuator option in your setup?

the digirig mobiles on my icoms (ic-736 and ic821h) are stock.

are you getting too much audio from the din8 ?
