Icom IC-718 not communicating with N3FJP

I recently acquired an Icom IC-718 and am trying to get it to talk to N3FJP for logging and CAT control. I have a DigiRig Mobile and got the Icom 706 cables in today. The remote port is connected to the serial port and the ACC is connected to the audio port. My settings match what is recommended by N3FJP: Icom 718
Rig Name = Icom
Read Frequency Command = FE FE 5E E0 03 FD
Read Mode Command = FE FE 5E E0 04 FD
Convert To Hex = True
Baud Rate = 9600
Parity = None
Stop Bits = 1
Data Bits = 8
Power Option = RTS

As soon as I start polling the rig it goes into TX mode, I can change the mode and frequency from the N3FJP Rig Interface setup page, but changing anything on the radio does not reflect back to the logging program. I can make the DigiRig work with my Xiegu G90 and BaoFeng HTs, but this has me stumped. I’m sure it’s something simple I’m overlooking but I’m hitting a brick wall at this point.
Thanks.

I neglected to say that the N3FJP does not read the frequency and mode from the radio, even though I can change them from the program.

Set flow control to none in the remote/cat section of the software.
That is toggling rts, which is used to activate ptt.

Im not familiar with that software but dig around for rts/dtr or flow control settings.

Lastly, is your digirig setup for ci-v/icom remote control?

If it is setup for xiegu radios, u need to use a stereo to mono adapter on the radio side of the digirig cat/serial/remote control cable.
Xiegu=2 wire plus ground for cat
Icom=1 wire plus ground for cat/ci-v

Good luck

If the same Digirig Mobile works for serial CAT control of Xiegu G90 then it is configured for logic levels. For serial control of ICOM radios you need CI-V configuration. More on the subject here:

Both of my DigiRigs were logic control, I reworked one for CI-V. I cannot guarentee my work but the continuity tests check out. It will probably have to wait until next week for more testing as I’m neck deep in field day.
Thanks for the suggestions,
Greg

I am also using a IC-718 with the Digirig. I have the cables going from the 9 pin to the digirig, the USB to usb-c to Macbook. It doesn’t pick up the rig whether in serial or audio. WSJTX and JS8 both ā€œSeeā€ the device, the computer ā€œseesā€ the device, but the apps won’t acknowledge it. I have the radio set to IC-718, Input and Output sound on the computer set to USB Device, and all the settings on the app audio and general set to USB. Any suggested help?

@Brawny71 Can you confirm that you are using the Digirig Mobile in CI-V configuration as discussed earlier in this thread?

I believe so.

Though I may not fully understand CV-I. I have it connected to the 718 with the 9 pin, connected to the digirig via serial, digirig to Macbook via usb-c

Where is the digirig set up? I only see settings in the WSTX AND JS8 Programs.

New guy questions

sorry about that, i didn’t distinguish between ā€˜software setup’ and hardware ā€˜setup’ or ā€˜configuration’.

the digirig comes configured, in hardware, for the radio/serial requirements you selected.

here is the link to the breakdown/explanation article:

so what i was getting at is:
what ā€˜setup/configuration’ did you purchase.

if it was logic levels for a xiegu rig, then you need to physically modify the digirig board or slip a stereo to mono adapter inline at the radio end.

good luck

I went through DX Engineering. Told them what I had and wanted to do. They recommended this and this is what I ordered. https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/DRG-ICO-MBL-KT#overview

@Brawny71 my apologies, i was replying, for the most part to the OP @Gomez concerning using DR configured for xiegu with an icom radio.

the icom ā€˜bundle’ will absolutely work with an icom but i’m going to step back and let @K0TX or @Constrainted split this topic between the two different posting/issues.

(i’m just a user with DRs in service on xiegu and icoms)
