Issue: Kenwood D710G CAT control inop with new Digirig (rs232) & new cables using VARA FM & Winlink.
Overview: Digirig cables plugged into Data & PC port at back of radio, I am able to get VARA to activate PTT and make a successful Winlink session but cannot get VARA to change frequency.
VARA FM Settings: PTT Via Com and PTT pin set to RTS
Can anyone give me some pointers on what I may be missing to successfully get CAT control working?
The VARA FM application has no ability to change frequency via CAT control. It only controls PTT via the serial port. If you are using Winlink with VARA FM, it will not be able to change frequencies on this or any other U/VHF-only rig either. The Winlink team made a decision to not support CAT control to change frequency for packet or VARA FM sessions because there are so few U/VHF-only rigs that support CAT. You’ll need to use different software for rig control of the D710G (such as Flrig).
