I am trying to setup an iGate using a Kenwood TM-V71. Non A Model. I bought the Digirig Mobile RS-232 logic, the Kenwood Cables, and the USB isolator. I have everything hooked up and I can see the audio from the radio on my PC. I can get the configs to run on WSJTX and it runs the radio and waterfalls the audio correctly. When I run PinPoint or ARPSICE32, or APBK-GATE, or any of the APRS software, as soon as I enable the TNC it keys the radio PTT. I cannot find any of the settings I missed or anything that might cause the radio to key up like that. I can provide any information necessary, hopefully someone has had that issue or knows what I’m doing wrong or if I should have bought the standard logic Digirig. Any help appreciated.
the first thing to remember when ‘going’ from a wsjt-x type of software to an aprs software:
the digirig is NOT a tnc.
in an aprs software, choosing something like KISS TNC and selecting the DIGIRIG mobile comport is not correct.
so you MUST run a software tnc or virtual tnc software.
my favorite is UZ7HO soundmodem.
this software runs ‘in between’ the digirig, or any other sound + ptt keying device, and the aprs software.
there are some aprs applications that have a built in softmodem for ax.25 but i don’t think aprsisce/32 is one of them.
now, the reason the radio is being keyed is that a TNC uses those rts and dtr lines to control the flow of serial data.
they are being toggled by the aprs software expecting to see a TNC and that is keying your radio because the digirig mobile uses the rts line for ptt keying, also cat command but the connection in the audio cable is there whether you intend to use it or not.
